Undead nightmare takes some time after John comes back to the ranch and before his death but it is not canon at all. I always thought it was either John's dream or purgatory.

Anthony genuinely wasn't a bad guy he was just hurt by his cousins death. Just how john was hurt by arthur death and felt the need to kill micah. Probably one of the better minor characters in the game.

I think it's a missed opportunity that they didn't have major moments where John comes across undead versions of Dutch, Javier, and Bill and he has to put them down one last time. Their tone could've been the equivalent of that scene where John spits at Javier's corpse in the base game, at least for Dutch & Javier.
